ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Imran Khan will embark on his first tour to Iran, after assuming charge, later this month.
Foreign Office spokesperson, Mohammad Faisal confirmed reports of the premier’s trip and said further details will be shared in due course of time.
Diplomatic sources say the premier would visit Iran on April 21st.
During the crucial visit, the prime minister is likely to meet Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and President Hassan Rouhani.
The purpose of the premier’s visit is to cement Pak-Iran relations and emphasize the need for unity between the Muslim Ummah, sources added.
Prime Minister Imran Khan has visited Saudi Arabia twice after assuming charge, however, all eyes are set on his first Iran tour due to ideological differences between the two countries, which Pakistan is trying to bridge.
Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman has also visited Pakistan and signed MoUs for investments in February. He was also awarded country’s highest civil award Nishan-e-Pakistan.
