Pakistan, China ink accord for multi-billion Mainline-1 railway project

BEINJING – Pakistan and China have signed the ML-1 railway’s agreement, the Radio Pakistan reported on Sunday.

The document was signed by Prime Minister Imran Khan and his counterpart Li Keqiang in Beijing on Sunday.

In a statement from Beijing, Minister for Railways Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said it is a great day in the history of Pakistan Railways.

He said under the project a double track from Peshawar to Karachi will be laid.

The minister said that the speed of train on new track will be 160 kilometres per hour.

Earlier today (Sunday), Prime Minister Imran Khan held a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing.

The members of Pakistan delegation were also accompanying the Prime Minister during the meeting in Great Hall.

The prime minister and his delegation also held a meeting with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and discussed bilateral issues and regional matter
