Suspects in Rawalpindi gang-rape case remanded to police custody

RAWALPINDI – A local court on Sunday handed over four accused in the gang-rape of a girl to police on a five-day physical remand.

The suspects, including three police constables and a driver, were presented before a duty magistrate in handcuffs after which they were remanded to the police.

The accused Muhammad Naseer, Rashid Minhas, Muhammad Azeem and Amir are alleged of raping a 22-year-old student in Rawalpindi; they belong to the Muhafiz force.

Rawalpindi CPO Captain(retd) Muhammad Faisal Rana revealed that the suspects displayed no remorse or embarrassment over the incident, ensuring that punishment would be served to the suspects.

The police officer asserted that he was closely supervising the investigation. The Punjab Police IG, Arif Nawaz has directed the CPO to contact the victim.

Meanwhile, Spokesman to Chief Minister Punjab, Dr Shahbaz Gill told a private TV channel that the district administration was immediately directed to take stern action over the incident.

‘It is not a favour but a responsibility to ensure that the justice is served,’ Gill said.
