No extension in deadline, FBR Chief dismisses rumours about assets declaration scheme

ISLAMABAD – Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) chairperson Shabbar Zaidi announced on Saturday that there would be no extension in the Assets Declaration Scheme 2019, contrary to rumours about extension in June 30 deadline.

Zaidi addressed a press conference in Islamabad and said no such option regarding extension was under consideration.

Zaidi’s observation comes days after Prime Minister Imran Khan expressed in a telethon that he was considering the option of extending the deadline for the scheme.

The incumbent Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf regime is toiling hard to convince people, avail the scheme and Minister of State for Revenue, Hammad Azhar had shared that the motive of the scheme was o document the economy instead of generating revenue.

Civil servants and politicians are not allowed to whiten their money through the scheme.

In an earlier interaction with businessmen, the premier had expressed that those seeking more time to declare assets should at least register themselves before the June 30 deadline.

‘If we extend the deadline beyond June 30, it would give an impression that the government might bring another scheme,’ the premier had elaborated.
