No home-made meals for Nawaz Sharif after PM Imran Khan comes down hard on corruption convicts

LAHORE – The Punjab government has decided to ban former prime minister Nawaz Sharif to have home-made food.

Earlier, the jail administration had allowed Nawaz Sharif’s family to bring food for him.

This week the jail administration will issue orders to lift this facility of getting meals from home.

It comes after Prime Minister Imran Khan Wednesday directed the Ministry of Law to introduce a legal amendment to withdraw A-class jail facility from those who plundered public money.

On Monday, while talking to a private television channel, Khan ruled out the possibility of any National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) for both Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif and Pakistan People Party co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari.

Former premier Sharif is currently serving seven-year prison term awarded to him in the Al-Azizia reference, while ex-president Zardari is in NAB custody over corruption and mega money-laundering.

The premier also warned that those politicians who had been arrested or convicted under money laundering charges would not be able to avail higher classes in jail.

“I have told the law ministry that the money launderers should be sent to a common jail. Soon, legislation will be made in this regard. They [money launderers] should know how a common criminal is treated in this country,” he warned.
