KARACHI – A court in southern port city of Karachi has awarded nine-year jail sentence to a man for sharing obscene pictures of his wife on WhatsApp and blackmailing her.
The court of the judicial magistrate East issued the ruling after petitioner proved the allegations against the suspect named Faizan. The court has also imposed a fine of Rs90,000 on him.
The prosecution said the accused sent his wife’s obscene pictures to her brother via WhatsApp and blackmailed him. The brother later lodged a complaint with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
The agency arrested the suspect and found indecent photos of his wife in his mobile phone.
In her statement, the woman told court that she married Faizan in 2019 but he had been abusive and demanded money from her and her family.
The defense lawyer argued that Faizan’s mobile phone had been misused.
However, the court observed that the suspect did not present any witnesses or evidence to prove the allegations wrong. The court remarked that the suspect had tarnished the dignity of the complainant and her family with his actions.
The judicial magistrate sentenced Faizan to jail under the PICA Act.
