LAHORE – Lahore’s traffic police have ramped up their efforts against repeat traffic violators, fining a vehicle with 108 recorded violations through the city’s e-challan system. The driver received a fine of over Rs51,800 for multiple infractions.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Amara Athar emphasised the importance of drivers adhering to traffic rules, particularly with increased monitoring.
The vehicle, caught on Mall Road by Traffic Warden Mohsin Abbas, was found to have run red lights 80 times, broken lane rules 19 times, and failed to use a seatbelt on nine occasions.
CTO Amara also warned that drivers with unpaid e-challans will be barred from accessing police services, such as obtaining driving licenses, character certificates, and verifications.
Additionally, authorities are cracking down on those tampering with vehicle number plates to evade fines.
In related efforts, Punjab introduced AI-based e-challans earlier this week to enhance road safety, automating traffic violation detection and enforcement, according to Punjab Safe City’s Operation Commander Muhammad Shafique Ahmad.
