QUETTA (Web Desk) – Torrential rains across Balochistan caused enormous losses in terms of life and property during the last 48 hours as at least nine people including women and children lost their lives.
According to the reports, the flash floods wreaked havoc in various parts of the oil and gas rich Balochistan province that borders Iran and Afghanistan. The gushing streams of rain water damaged more than 100 houses, leaving the inmates homeless aimed battering downpours.
The local meteorological office said more rain was forecasted across the province over the weekend.
According to Met Office, widespread rain-thundershower accompanied by strong gusty winds is expected in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Mardan, Kohat divisions), upper Punjab (Sargodha, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore divisions), Islamabad, FATA, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir with isolated hailstorm. Scattered heavy downpours at times very heavy is expected in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Mardan, Kohat divisions) , FATA, Kashmir, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, and Lahore divisions. Dry weather is expected in Sindh and Balochistan during the next 24 hours.
During the rainy season last summer, torrential downpours and flooding killed 81 people and affected almost 300,000 Pakistanis across the country.
