KARACHI (Staff Report) – Pakistan Rangers has launched a School College Protection System in Karachi, Colonel Qaiser said during a press conference on Saturday.
The system involves the use of software to protect educational institutions from any kind of terror threat.
Accompanied by Sindh information adviser Maula Baksh Chandio and senior police officers, the Rangers colonel said this software would be used via mobile phones.
“We have launched an application which can be downloaded easily on cell phones,” Col Qaiser said. “We have divided the city in 60 parts for the implementation of this system. This app can also be helpful in tackling street crimes, thefts and other crimes.”
Appreciating the initiative of Sindh Rangers, Chandio said: “The step is being taken under the National Action Plan (NAP). We are proud of our national institutions like Rangers and we have always put our suggestions in front of them for the betterment of Karachi.”
Chandio added that all major hospitals will also be included in this protection system. “Both Rangers and the provincial government are working in tandem to make Karachi more peaceful,” he maintained.
‘Panic button’
Earlier this year, a high-tech Operations Room was activated at one of the police headquarters in Lahore to monitor schools security amid terrorist threats.
Panic buttons have been installed in at least 335 schools of Lahore, which would help administrations immediately alert the police in any crisis-like situation.
Security for students in Pakistan gained the primary focus of politicians, security agencies and general public following the organised terrorist attack on educational institutions in recent past.
The latest in the string includes Baacha Khan University, Charsadda that left over 20 people dead and as many wounded.
The brutal assault echoed the horrifying 2014 attack APS Peshawar that left 150 dead, 144 of them children.
