ISLAMABAD (Staff Report) – The Allama Iqbal Open University on Sunday opened its regional campus in Rahim Yar Khan, inviting students from south Punjab.
The building costing Rs. 138 million provides comprehensives facilities to the local students including two labs, a library, conference halls, ten class rooms, video conferencing space and a mosque.

In his address of welcome, Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Shahid Siddiqui thanked the local philanthropist Chaudhry Munir Ahmed for his handsome donation.
State Minister for Education Balighur Rehman, who inaugurated the new building, hoped that AIOU will keep up its leading role in enhancing literacy and providing high-quality education in the country’s remotest regions.

He lauded the role of the university in meeting educational needs of South Punjab as well.
VC Dr Siddiqui mentioned various initiatives to strength students’ support system and upgrade its infrastructure network. He claimed that over 0.7 million students were enrolled in 44 regional centres nationwide (Spring- 2016 admissions).
He said AIOU had achieved the distinction of having the largest academic and infrastructure network in the country, with 44-campuses and thousands of tution centers.
