LAHORE (Staff Report) – Punjab Chief Minister, Shahbaz Sharif, on Wednesday, met with the Chakwal girl, Nargis Gul, who obtained 1,004 out of total 1,100 in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination despite all odds.
According to a statement, Nargis Gul along with her mother and other family members had arrived in Lahore on a special invitation by Shahbaz Sharif.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister paid rich tributes to the hardworking girl and the poor family for her outstanding achievement in the matriculation exam, further announcing that the Punjab Government will now bear all educational expenses of Nargis Gul.
He also gave her a Rs5 lakh cheque and a laptop as a gift from the Punjab government.
On the occasion, Shahbaz Sharif said that the provincial government will also provide a free of cost house to Nargis’ family wherever they want, in Lahore or Chakwal.
Earlier on Sunday, Daily Pakistan Global had published an appeal of Nargis Gul in a report titled “This orphan slum girl from Chakwal overcame all odds to obtain 1,004 marks in SSC exam and now she wants to become a doctor“.
In the video message, she said: “I have obtained 1,004 marks after so much hard work despite the hard conditions as we don’t even have a reasonable residence, whenever it rains, everything inside our hut gets wet along with my books,” further adding “I do not want any laptop from the government, but only education”.
Gul lives in a hut along with her mother near the Thaneel Fatohi area in Chakwal district. Her father passed away some years ago, leaving the family completely helpless to face the harsh realities of life.
However, the young girl and her mother refused to surrender to the tough situations and somehow managed to continue with her education. She got 1,004 marks in the 2016 Secondary School Certificate examination held under the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Rawalpindi.
After the fulfilment of one dream, Nargis Gul now wants to become a doctor and is currently enrolled in FSc Pre-Medical at Chakwal’s Sufa College on a full scholarship.
It is also worth mentioning here that this correspondent was approached by Chief Minister Punjab’s Special Monitoring Unit (Law & Order) after the publication of the report based on Nargis Gul’s achievement.
