Did not contest elections for stepping down, says PM Nawaz

ASHGABAT – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Saturday said his party did not take part in electoral tussle for stepping down laterwards.

Talking informally to newsmen in Turkmenistan where he is present for an official tour, the premier expressed that he was pressed for resignation several times.

He said that PML-N never alleged about rigging in elections despite the fact that the party contested elections under caretaker setup put forth by Pervez Musharraf.

He expressed that the nomination papers of him and CM Punjab Shehbaz Sharif were rejected during 2008 general elections.

He went on to say that he did long march for restoration of deposed judges and went along with political parties. The premiere claimed that he never asked for resignation of anyone when his party was in opposition.
