ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Thursday that the struggle of Kashmiris for freedom in the face of oppression cannot be stifled by sounds of bullets.
The premier was addressing an International Parliamentary Seminar organised by National Assembly Secretariat and Young Parliamentarians Forum on Kashmir held in Islamabad to discuss the prevailing situation in India-held Kashmir.
‘The world needs to tell India “enough is enough” with regard to its policy towards the freedom movement in held Kashmir’ he said.
‘Seventy years of brutal repression and Kashmiri struggle in the face of that oppression have shown cries of freedom ‘ the PM added, calling for an end to the continued suffering of generations in the restive region.
The premier also referred to Burhan Wani as a ‘vibrant and charismatic leader’, and said that his martyrdom has become a rallying point for the freedom loving people of the territory”.
‘The oppressors efforts to silent that one voice for freedom have unleashed a thousand more’, he said.
He said Pakistan will continue to extend moral, political and diplomatic support to the Kashmiri people in their indigenous struggle and continue to shake the conscience of the international community for their rights.
The prime minister also encouraged the international community to recall the promise made to Kashmir 70 years ago, not only by Pakistan and the United Nations but also by India to recognise the people’s right to self-determination.
PM Nawaz detailed the efforts made to highlight the plight of the Kashmiri people at international forums and told the conference that Pakistan would continue to bolster the struggle of the people in the region
Speaking on the occasion Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz said that Jammu and Kashmir dispute is a stigma on the international process. He said both Kashmir and Palestine are the two longest unresolved items on the UNSC agenda, Radio Pakistan reported.
He said the presence of a large number of Indian troops in the occupied valley is a clear manifestation of Indian policy to use state terrorism to suppress the just struggle of Kashmiri people.
Sartaj Aziz also called upon India to desist from steps that alter the demography of Kashmir.
He said Pakistan will continue to extend steadfast support to Kashmiri people in their just struggle to right to self-determination.
‘Solution of the problem lies only in a fair and transparent plebiscite under the auspices of the United Nations’ Sartaj said.
