LAHORE – Cold wave caused by moderate rain and snowfall gripped different parts of the country on Sunday as the mercury continued to drop.
In Karachi, the weather turned cold as rainfall continued for the second day on Saturday, although many of the citizens enjoyed the rare weather conditions for the metropolis.
However, moderate rain exposed the slow response operation and vulnerability of the city’s electricity supply system that claimed lives of six people.
The Met office has forecasted rain for Sunday in Karachi and Lahore and rain and snowfall in Quetta and Peshawar.
Residents of Quetta also enjoyed snowfall as three inches of snow was recorded in Quetta and six inches of snow in Ziarat. They visited the Hana and Urak valleys to enjoy the frosty weather some 20km from Quetta.
In addition, a large number of tourists from around the country thronged Murree as snowfall continued in the town.
There was light rain in some districts in Punjab including Layyah, Jhang, Multan, Bhakkar, Sargodha, Dera Ghazi Khan, Khanpur and Rahim Yar Khan.
An official claimed the lowest temperature was recorded in Kalam, Swat Valley, where the mercury plunged to minus 10 degrees Celsius.
Earlier, Pakistan Army cleared Lowari tunnel for traffic on Saturday after a complete traffic halt that lasted for over 10 hours.
According to the met office, cold wave would continue for a few more days with rain at scattered places around the country including Islamabad, FATA, Gilgit-Baltistan.
