Four killed, two injured as rickshaw rams into passenger train

OKARA – At least four people were killed while two other were left injured as a rickshaw rammed into a train in Baseerpur city of Punjab here on Wednesday.

According to reports, Farid Express was on its way from Lahore to Karachi when a rickshaw collided with it. Eyewitnesses claimed that the driver of rickshaw did not see the train before crossing.

Initial reports confirm that the deceased were labourers who were heading to nearby farms. The severity of the collision can be gauged from the fact that no dead body could be identified.

Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafiq took notice of the incident and ordered an inquiry into the tragic accident.

There has been burgeoning reports of train accidents in the recent past particularly due to unavailability of proper crossing points.

According to a report by Dunya Newspaper, over 2400 crossing points in the country have been termed as dangerous including 75 in Punjab but on a large-scale, no arrangements have been made to mitigate the losses incurred as a result of train collisions.
