KARACHI – Former skipper Shahid Afridi has suggested a life ban for cricketers involved in spot-fixing scandal whereas cricketing legend Javed Miandad went further and suggested death penalty for Pakistani players found to be involved in PSL corruption case.
In separate statements, both cricketers demanded a fair trial for the suspects currently undergoing investigations.
Talking to media, Miandad said that money has become everything due to which the players commit spot-fixing. He urged PCB to change its policies regarding this crime and demanded stern action against the accused.
‘I will even favour death penalty for match-fixers’ said Javed Miandad categorically.
It is relevant to mention that Pakistan Cricket Board has launched a large-scale probe into spot-fixing scandal that marred the reputation of Pakistan Super League season 2.
The PSL corruption probe followed reports that Islamabad United duo Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif were allegedly involved in spot-fixing.
Both the players were immediately suspended and were sent home putting the credibility of the glamorous cricket league in question.
In addition, pacer Muhammad Irfan was also suspended from all forms of cricket on Tuesday and the probe is still going on. Sports analysts believe that transparent investigations would expose many reputable names in Pakistani cricket.
On the other hand, PCB Chairman Shaharyar Khan while commenting on the issue said, ‘Everything is in our hands. We will decide the case and we will hand out the punishments.’
