SHC orders release of Dr Asim after granting bail in NAB cases

KARACHI – The Sindh High Court on Wednesday approved bail plea of Dr Asim Hussain in NAB corruption case paving way for his release.

A referee judge of Sindh high Court granted bail to PPP leader. Earlier, on February 2, a two-judge bench, comprising Justice Muhammad Farooq Shah and Muhammad Karim Khan Agha gave a split judgment in the matter.

The bail was granted on medical grounds and Asim was ordered to submit surety bonds worth Rs. 5 million.

With the latest verdict by the court, Dr. Asim is set to be released soon as he has already acquired bail in all the cases he was facing in different courts.

Dr Asim was facing two corruption cases filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for allegedly depriving the public exchequer of around Rs 462 million by misusing his authority during PPP stint.

In August 2015, the former petroleum minister was detained during a raid in Clifton area over alleged embezzlement.

As soon as the decision of Asim’s release came, social media buffs took their frustration out and felicitated masses and Pakistan Peoples Party in a taunting tone.
