ROSEAU, Dominica – Pakistan won the third and final Test with six balls to spare to clinch a first series victory in the West Indies Sunday and give a fitting farewell to the retiring captain Misbah-ul-Haq and veteran Younis Khan.
Roston Chase´s unbeaten 101, his second hundred of the series, proved in vain as the home side, set a target of 303 at Windsor Park in Dominica, slipped to 93 for six before the lower order almost rescued a dramatic draw.
Earlier, Pakistan declared its innings at 174 runs thus giving n overall target of 304 runs. West Indies were all out for 247 in its first innings before Green Shirts took their turn. The opening line-up of host side stumbled early with Brathwaite departing for 29 and Powell for 31 runs.
Only Roston Chase tried to chase a target of 376 set by Green Shirts in the first innings but he got retired hurt on 60 runs. Currently, Shane Dowrich and Jason Holder are at the crease.
Earlier, the Green Shirts managed to score a total 376 runs in its first innings. Azhar Ali scored 14th hundred of his test career on day two to put Pakistan in a commanding position against West Indies. Azhar also scored a hundred in first innings of the second Test during this tour.
Younis Khan was trapped plumb in front of the wicket of the bowling of Jason Holder after scoring 18 runs.
Misbah Ul Haq managed to make 55 runs though he was lampooned on social media for his traditional slow strike rate. He was sent to pavilion by Chase on 59 runs. West Indian bowler Joseph took Babar Azam’s wicket who added 55 to the total.
It is also worth mentioning here that both Misbah-ul-Haq and Younis Khan would say adios to their international cricket after this Test.
West Indies won the toss and elected to bowl first in the final contest after rain partially hampered the opening day’s play.
Pakistan started its innings with heavyweights including Azahar Ali and Shan Masood but lost early wicket of latter who went to the pavilion after scoring merely 9 runs.
A total 69 overs were bowled on the first day and visiting side managed to maintain run rate at around 2.4 per over.
Pakistan will be eyeing a series win in the farewell tests of two veteran cricketers Misbah-ul-Haq and Younis Khan.
Pakistan took the lead in the test series as they won the match by seven wickets.
The hosts made a comeback and won the Barbados test match by 106 runs.
The deciding test match started at 07.00 pm Pakistan Standard Time (PST).
