PM Nawaz, UN secretary general meet in Astana, discuss regional security situation

ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday held a meeting with United National Secretary General António Guterres on the sideline of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Astana, Kazakhstan.

During the meeting, both high-ups discussed the security situation of the region, besides having discussion regarding full membership of the SCO.

Following a request by Afghanistan, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will hold a meeting with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani today (Friday) to discuss bilateral ties on the sidelines of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Astana, Kazakhstan.

The Prime Minister reached Astana on Thursday to attend the summit where Pakistan is set to get full membership of the organisation.

As per reports, the Afghan president wanted to hold a discussion in order to improve the bilateral ties.

Earlier, Nawaz Sharif met with President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

The PM reiterated Pakistan’s strong commitment to cooperate with the both countries in energy sector, regional connectivity and human resource development.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also greeted his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif at a cultural gala in Kazakhstan.
