LAHORE – Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, a strong ally of PML-N, has reportedly refused to cooperate with the party for removing Article 62 and 63 from the Constitution of Pakistan.
The information follows a 40-minute long meeting between Fazlur Rehman and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif at his Jati Umra residence here.
During the meeting, both discussed the prevailing political situation in the country after the Supreme Court removed Nawaz Sharif while deciding the high-profile Panama Papers case.
Dawn News quoting sources has stated that Fazlur Rehman declined to support PML-N’s bid to revoke Articles 62 and 63 that led to the ouster of Nawaz Sharif.
Such amendments would deface the Constitution and may cause political unrest in the country, the JUI-F chief highlighted in the meeting.
The sources further claimed that the meeting also suggested that Rehman should struggle for eliminating differences between Nawaz Sharif and former president Asif Ali Zardari.
It is notable that incumbent Prime Minister and his predecessor Nawaz Sharif called for amending the Constitution to strengthen the civilians after the Panamagate judgment.
