Nawaz Sharif expresses concerns over abduction of PML-N s social media activists

LONON – Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif expressed his concerns over the alleged abduction and harassment of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz cyber activists, terming it an attack on freedom of media.

In a brief statement issued from Lonson on Saturday, Nawaz Sharif said that it was the constitutional responsibility of the government to respect and ensure protection of freedom of speech offline and on social media.

The PML-N president asked the interior ministry to take immediate notice of the abductions and ensure the recovery of the abductees.

The former premier condemned the the ‘forcible censorship of opposing ideas’ adding that every citizen had the right to express their opinions within the confines of the country’s law and values.

‘I strongly believes in freedom of speech’ affirmed Nawaz Sharif.

Let it be known that scores of digital activists of ruling PML-N disappeared over the last few days apparently for targeting state institutions for having played a dubious role behind the ouster of Nawaz Sharif as prime minister in the backdrop of Panama papers case verdict.
