NSA Nasir Janjua fears eruption of nuclear war in South-Asia

ISLAMABAD – National Security Advisor (NSA) to the Prime Minister (PM) Lieutenant General (Retired) Nasser Khan Janjua expressed on Monday that the possibility of nuclear war could not be ruled out as the stability of the South Asian region hangs in a delicate balance.

While addressing a seminar on issues of national security in Islamabad, the official stated that India had been stockpiling a range of dangerous weapons as it threatens Pakistan continuously of conventional warfare.

The security czar maintained that Pakistan encountered the menace of terrorism only after it started supporting the operations of US-led forces in Afghanistan adding that Washington started to deflect the blame for its failures in the country onto Pakistan with the growing influence of Taliban in Afghanistan.

“Pakistan has been battling with security problems for the past forty years. Peace in Afghanistan remains our top priority,” he declared.

He complained that despite suffering a lot in this war on terror, both in terms of lives and economy, the international community had not looked upon the sacrifices in a positive attitude.

The former general also underscored Pakistan’s broader national security policy in the region, seeking to dismiss international concerns about the country’s role in the war on terror.

Lt Gen (R) Nasser Janjua opined that Pakistan had been successful in defeating the nefarious designs of the enemy, a harbinger of which was militants laying down their arms in sensitive parts of the country in droves.

“Not only are the people of Balochistan laying down their arms, but they are chanting ‘Jeevay Jeevay Pakistan’ as well,” he told the audience and noted that the overall security situation in Karachi had improved considerably.
