LAHORE – Most wanted criminal and accused of several murders and property grabbing cases, ex-police inspector Abid Boxer was arrested from Dubai through Interpol, local news channels reported here on Wednesday.

Abid Boxer was considered a mastermind of fake police encounters in Punjab and believed that he had contacts with the underworld.

Boxer, who was arrested by Interpol, will be handed over to Pakistani authorities soon.

In 2008, Zafar Abbas, a maternal uncle of ex-police inspector Abid Boxer, died in police custody in Services Hospital. He was an accused in several murders and property grabbing cases, as well.

Zafar Abbas, a resident of DHA, Lahore, was also accused of murdering a director of a cooperative bank. His family had claimed that police arrested him in connection with a kidnapping-cum-murder of Naseem Sharif, widow of a retired brigadier. He was accused of fraudulently getting the property of the widow transferred in his name. A case (658/07) against him and his son was registered in Qila Gujar Singh police station on July 11, 2007.

Batool Bibi, the wife of Zafar Abbas, had believed that her husband was tortured to death by police. She had held CIA SP Umar Virk responsible for the death of her husband.

However, the CIA SP had categorically denied that Zafar Abbas was subjected to severe torture, resulting in his death.
