MQM-P’s Salman Mujahid accused of sexual assault, harassment

KARACHI – A Pakistani lawmaker faces allegations of sexual assault, blackmailing and torture by two citizens of the country’s biggest city.

Salman Mujahid Baloch, of Muttahida Qaumi Movement – Pakistan (MQM-P), has been accused by a woman named Aleena, who filed a complaint with Gulshan-e-Iqbal police station, claiming that the MNA had sexually assaulted and subsequently started to blackmail her.

She alleged that Baloch first violated her on August 12, 2014, at Parliament lodges and made a video of it through a hidden camera.

In her application, the woman stated the lawmaker demanded Rs4 million in exchange for the video.

She added Baloch promised to marry her but later backtracked and tortured her brother.

Aleena says if any harm befalls her then the MQM lawmaker will be responsible.

On the other hand, the MQM-P leader has denied all the allegations and termed the allegations as a “conspiracy” against him. “I had already filed a complaint against this woman on December 16 last year,” he told the media on Tuesday.

Baloch maintained that the woman had taken Rs4million from him for her mother’s treatment at Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital. “I came to doubt her when she asked for more money,” he added.

According to the lawmaker, the case is pending in court.

Separately, on Monday, another citizen took to social media to claim that the MNA harassed and threatened him during an altercation on a road in the port city.

Ahsan Alavi said that Baloch and his guards brandished weapons at him and hit him too upon not moving his vehicle.

An FIR has been registered with Gizri Police Station against the lawmaker under 506(B) for criminal intimidation.

The Sindh Home Department has taken back the lawmaker’s security.
