‘Tainted’ SAMAA TV anchor Ali Arif justifies receiving iPhone X for settling police case

KARACHI – Ali Arif, the SAMAA TV anchor has posted a video on social media to clarify his position over his leaked telephonic conversation brought to light by his journalistic fellow, Iqrar ul Hassan.

In the leaked voice note, Arif was demanding two iPhone X from the relative of Junaid Kakar, a college student, who threatened and broke his mobile phone, tendered an apology to him and was forgiven in return, the other day.

In the 11-minute video clip, Arif justified his demands by saying, “It is my right to get compensation as I work hard to earn money.”

According to Ali, the conversation which went viral on social media was twisted and the other side of the story was not shown properly.

“Junaid Kakar’s Cousin Khalid Kakar called and threatened me; I asked them to hand over their vehicle to Police and demanded an apology.”

“I first asked them to bring Junaid and his companion for an apology but upon resistance, I lodge my complaint following which police arrested Junaid and Ahmed Wali Kakar,” said the anchor.

He claimed that Khalid had threatened me in the police station that they will leak my audio tape.

Earlier, last week, Ali Arif and the college students settled the matter and announced the same on social media.

However, renowned TV anchor Iqrar Ul Hassan confirmed that Arif had demanded smartphones for not pursuing the case.

The ARY anchor wrote on his timeline “ I verify that voice in the call is of Ali Arif as I know him personally”.

The ‘Sar e Aam’ anchor added that he felt ashamed as such persons were part of the media industry, where people sell their profession just for two mobiles.
