PPP-Workers sets up day-long hunger strike camp for socio-political revolution

ISLAMABAD –  Pakistan People’s Party-Workers (PPP-W) led by Safdar Abbasi set up a hunger strike camp on Monday outside the National Press Club Islamabad, calling for a social, economic and political revolution in the country.

The party loyalists gathered at the camp in the morning and observed a hunger strike till night;  PPP-Workers President Safdar Abbasi, former prime minister Benazir Bhutto’s close confidante Naheed Khan, Ibne Rizvi, Fayyaz Khan and others were also present at the camp.

Speaking to media, Naheed Khan demanded that the country should be made a welfare state and there should be a ban on spending large sums on election campaigns.

Naheed said that the hunger strike was for starting a social, economic and political revolution in the country adding that there was a need to highlight the issues of the common man instead of the power struggle in politics.

“The voice of the common man has not been heard since the assassinations of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and his daughter Benazir Bhutto,” said Abbasi and decried that the richest families of the country were working for their own interests.

The politician also presented a charter of demands for making the country a welfare state where people will get free education, health facilities and flexible tax policies.

The charter includes free and fair elections, job quota for minorities and people of less developed areas and representation of common man in the legislature.

Meanwhile, Mr Abbasi expressed that the revolution for social, economic and political rights was necessary as the mainstream political parties pay no heed to the problems of the common man.

“The biggest problems people are facing are still of food, shelter and clothing,” he said.

The Leaders of PPP workers winded up the camp and announced that it would be re-established after Ramazan.

Pakistan Peoples Party Workers is a breakaway faction of Pakistan Peoples Party and it was founded on October 22, 2014.

Safdar Ali Abbasi was elected to the presidency through a resolution and the party was registered with the Election Commission on May 8, 2015.
