Caretaker PM: Ruling PML-N suggests its nominees

ISLAMABAD – The ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has finalized its nominees for next caretaker prime minister.

Justice (r) Nasir-ul-Mulk, Justice (r) Tassaduq Jilani and Ishrat Hussain are among the candidates suggested by the government for the caretaker PM.

Nasir-ul-Mulk is a Pakistani jurist and the former professor of law who served as the 22nd Chief Justice of Pakistan.

Tassaduq Hussain Jillani is a Pakistani judge who served as the 21st Chief Justice of Pakistan from 2013 to 2014.

Ishrat Husain is a Pakistani banker and economist who served as the Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan.

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi discussed these names with Leader of Opposition in National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah during their meetings.

A final announcement regarding the caretaker PM is expected to be made tomorrow after a meeting of PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and opposition leader Khursheed Shah.

Earlier, Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) had finalized the names of Former chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Zaka Ashraf and former foreign secretary Jalil Abbas Jilani for the post of caretaker prime minister.

The prime responsibility of the caretaker government is to ensure that the elections are held in a transparent manner and the basic machinery of the government continues without an elected setup in place.
