Caretaker CM: Murad Ali Shah to meet provincial opposition leader on May 24

KARACHI – The Chief Minister of Sindh Murad Ali Shah is scheduled to hold a meeting with Leader of the Opposition in the provincial assembly Khawaja Izharul Hasan on May 24 to deliberate over the caretaker CM slot.

According to media reports, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is considering Hameed Soomro, Younus Soomro and Justice (retd) Ghulam Sarwar, Dr. Mirza Ikhtiar, Dr. Qayyum Soomro and Murtaza Wahab for the position of interim CM.

The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) may nominate Aftab Ahmed Sheikh, Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) has proposed Syed Ghous Ali Shah while the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have not floated any names yet.

As the incumbent government nears the end of its tenure, the interim  CM will be in office until the general elections in July.

The prime responsibility of the caretaker government is to ensure that the elections are held in a transparent manner and the basic machinery of the government continues without an elected setup in place.

Earlier, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has recommended July 25, 26 or 27 for holding general elections 2018.
