ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbas congratulated Malaysian Prime Minister Dr. Mahathir Mohamad upon winning general elections and expressed his keen desire to further strengthen bilateral relations with Malaysia.
According to media reports, PM Abbasi while speaking to the Malaysian counterpart on phone also appreciated the smooth and peaceful conduct of elections and transfer of power, reflecting the maturity of the Malaysian nation. He extended the invitation to Prime Minister Dr. Mahathir to visit Pakistan
Prime Minister noted that the unprecedented success of Mahathir’s Pakatan Harapan party was a manifestation of people’s trust in his dynamic and inspirational leadership.
The premier underscored the need for exchange of high-level visits including parliamentary exchanges, to provide necessary impetus and direction to the bilateral relations.
Dr Mahathir thanked Prime Minister Abbasi for his wishes and affirmed his commitment to further strengthen and deepen bilateral ties.
Earlier, Mahathir’s coalition, the Pact of Hope, unseated the once-powerful Barisan Nasional, which had ruled the country uninterrupted for 61 years.
