Khyber Pakhtunkhwa celebrating Eidul Fitr today, rest of Pakistan observes on Saturday

PESHAWAR – Eidul Fitr is being celebrated in parts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa on Friday while festivities in rest of Pakistan will begin from Saturday.

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee – an official body – Chairman Mufti Muneebur Rehman on Thursday announced that Eid will be celebrated on Saturday as the Shawaal moon was not sighted.

“It has been unanimously agreed by all members of the central and zonal Ruet-e-Hilal committees that….Saturday will be the first day of Eid across country,” Mufti Muneeb said.

Despite efforts made by the government, Peshawar-based Qasim Ali Khan Mosque’s  Mufti Shahabuddin Popalzai along with his unofficial committee announced that Eid will be celebrated on Friday.

He made the announcement at 10pm after testifying 14 witnesses.

The provincial localities offered congregational Eid prayers on a larger scale in Peshawar’s Mahabat Mosque, while people in Bannu, Nowshera and Charsadda are celebrating the festivities.

Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and many other countries are celebrating Eid today.
