LAHORE- The former ruling family of Pakistan has decided to take the landmark verdict in their London properties case to the Islamabad High Court (IHC).
On Friday, Accountability judge Muhammad Bashir announced the judgment after hearing proceedings of a corruption reference against the Sharif family after more than 100 days, sentencing ex-PM Nawaz Sharif to 10 years in prison over his family’s purchase of luxury Avenfield apartments.
Maryam Nawaz, the daughter of PML-N ex-supremo, was sentenced to 7 years while her husband Capt (r) Safdar Awan was handed one-year jail term.

Now the Sharif family has decided that Khawaja Haris, on behalf of Nawaz, Maryam and Safdar, will file an appeal against the verdict in the IHC on Monday.
Moreover, the Sharifs have been told by their lawyers that possibility of getting any relief in the sentence would be very difficult if they fail to come to Pakistan within the 10-day deadline for filing an appeal.

The accountability court also fined Nawaz Sharif with £8 million (Rs1.29 billion) in a corruption reference while her daughter, Maryam Nawaz was ordered to pay a fine of £2 million (Rs320 million).
Additionally, the judge ordered to seal the property in question, suggesting the government to do legislation to bring plundered money back to the country.
