Owner of illegal drug-rehabilitation centre arrested in Lahore

LAHORE – Chief Justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar Thursday got arrested an owner of an illegal drug-rehabilitation center from the courtroom.

The chief justice was heading a three-member bench who was hearing a suo motu notice against quackery business at the Supreme Court Lahore Registry.

At the outset of the hearing, Healthcare Commission Chief Dr Ajmal stated that the illegal centre was sealed three times.

He said that almost three hundred patients were held in a three-room centre and they were subjected to torture on the name of treatment.

The concerned SHO produced the illegal centre owner, Amir Chisti, and submitted that his brother managed to escape. To different queries, the owner failed to satisfy the bench members.

At this, the chief justice expressed annoyance and ordered his immediate arrest besides directing to register a new case against him.

The chief justice also ordered to transfer all the under treatment patients to the government treatment facilities besides directing advocate general Punjab to supervise the process.

Meanwhile, the bench also heard a suo motu notice regarding aids victims of Jalapur Jattan and sought a presentation for the formation of a national level committee to address the problem.

The bench sought a reply from all provincial health secretaries, National Aids Control programme head, and NGOs in this regard.

During the hearing, the bench rejected the reports regarding the spread of aids and observed that if aids were not stopped then it would spread like hepatitis.

The bench further observed that Jalalpur Jattan was a sign only and the situation in other parts of the country was also not satisfactory.

It is a serious matter and a committee would be constituted after hearing all stake-holders, the bench remarked.
