LHC grants 10-day protective bail for Captain (r) Safdar

LAHORE – Lahore High Court has ordered the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) not to arrest Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) leader Captain (r) Muhammad Safdar Awan.

The Lahore High Court (LHC) heard a case on Tuesday pertaining to grant of protective bail to PML-N leader wherein Safdar, the son-in-law of former PM Nawaz Sharif, expressed that National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa summoned him in a case but it did not mention the case.

Safdar, fearing arrest, asked the court to grant him protective bail for a period of ten days which was accepted.

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) had earlier suspended the sentences against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law retired captain Mohammad Safdar and released them from Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail in September.

Accountability court judge Mohammad Bashir had on July 6 convicted Nawaz, Maryam and Capt (retd) Safdar in the Avenfield properties reference and sentenced them to 11 years, eight years and one year, respectively, in prison.
