ISLAMABAD – For the first time in Pakistan’s history, the number of annual income tax returns filed has exceeded 3.5 million, with taxpayers depositing over 55 billion rupees in taxes.
This revelation was made during a meeting on Inland Revenue Operations and other team members chaired by FBR Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial between Monday and Tuesday night.
The deadline for filing income tax returns has been extended.
According to Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, last year, FBR received 1.6 million tax returns by September 30, making the annual tax returns for 2023-24 more than double those of the previous year.
According to the report, the reason for the 14-day extension announced yesterday for filing tax returns was difficulties in the FBR system, which had caused challenges for trade organizations and the public in submitting tax returns.
To address these issues, the FBR chairman consulted with Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb and extended the deadline for filing tax returns by 14 days.
