The Pakistan Navy’s newly commissioned offshore patrol vessel, Hunain, arrived at the Karachi port this week, marking a significant milestone for the nation, according to a statement from the navy. This vessel is the third in a series of four offshore patrol vessels constructed at the Damen naval shipyard in Romania, and it is outfitted with advanced weapons and sensors, as reported by the Directorate General Public Relations (DGPR) of the Pakistan Navy.
PNS Hunain embarked on its maiden voyage from Romania to Pakistan on August 10, arriving at Karachi, a southern port city, on Friday. A reception ceremony was held at the Pakistan Navy Dockyard in Karachi to mark the ship’s arrival, with Vice Admiral Muhammad Faisal Abbasi, Commander of the Pakistan Fleet, serving as the chief guest.
Vice Admiral Abbasi emphasized the significance of the new addition, stating that “The inclusion of PNS Hunain in the Pakistan Navy fleet will greatly enhance our capability to safeguard the maritime frontiers of Pakistan.” He also highlighted that the induction of such multipurpose, state-of-the-art platforms will provide crucial support to ongoing maritime security patrols in the Indian Ocean.
PNS Hunain is a versatile medium-sized offshore patrol vessel, equipped with cutting-edge electronic warfare systems, anti-ship and anti-aircraft weaponry, sensors, as well as self-protection and terminal defense systems. The ship was constructed and commissioned in Romania in July of this year.
