ISLAMABAD – Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry has submitted a motion on Saturday in the National Assembly Secretariat calling for Prime Minister Imran Khan to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his role in de-escalating tensions between Pakistan and India.
The motion read that the Indian leadership’s war hysteria caused tension between Pakistan and India, adding that the Indian aggression brought the two nuclear-armed countries on the brink of war.
The motion further said that Prime Minister Imran Khan expertly diverted the situation towards peace and he should be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts towards peace.
An online petition was filed moving the Norwegian Nobel Committee for the nomination of the PM for the “Nobel Peace Prize for 2020 for his peace efforts and dialogues in the Asian region on diverse conflicts (e.g. Pakistan-India, Afghanistan-USA, Middle East etc.).”
On Friday, #NobelPeacePrizeForImranKhan became the top trend on Twitter after Prime Minister Imran Khan’s decision to free captured Indian air force pilot Abhinandan was lauded world over as a peace gesture to de-escalate tensions with India.
On a global level with noted journalists and intellectuals demanding recognition of these efforts in the form of a Nobel Peace Prize for the ongoing year.

In his address to a joint session of Parliament on Thursday, the PM had announced to release Wing Commander Abhinandan as a gesture of peace and goodwill towards India. The decision was highly appreciated by celebrities, journalists, diplomats and the common public for the brave and bold move avoiding the disastrous consequences.
On Friday, Pakistan handed over the arrested Indian pilot to India as a gesture of peace amid armed escalation between two nuclear-armed rivals.

Indian Air Force Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman was received by Air Vice Marshals-RGK Kapoor and Sreekumar Prabhakaran of Indian Air Force at Wagah-Attari Border.
The captured wing commander was accompanied by Indian high commission officials from Lahore to Wagah border.
Abhinandan Varthaman had landed inside Pakistani territory after his MiG-21 Bison was shot down in a dogfight with PAF jets on Wednesday morning.
