India sidelines Pakistan from a Saarc initiative

NEW DELHI- India has sidelined Pakistan, leaving it out from the list of Saarc member countries with which it will be connecting its state-of-the-art National Knowledge Network (NKN), reported The Economic Times on Wednesday.

The NK Network will connect the six member countries of Saarc and enable them to share scientific databases and remote access to advanced research facilities.

The Indian government has appointed a telecom company that will connect and extend the NKN to research and education networks in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Maldives and Sri Lanka. Pakistan is the only member state of South Asian Association of Regional Cooperation that has excluded from this initiative.

The Two countries have long suspended official talks due to the tension on LOC and Kashmir issue.

NKN is a multi-gigabit pan-India network which makes possible the development of India’s communications infrastructure, stimulates research and creates next-generation applications and services. This new initiative will enable collaboration among researchers from different educational networks.
