Pakistan to make Galiyat ‘plastic bag free region’

ABBOTTABAD – The Galiyat Development Authority (GDA) Thursday prepared plan to make Galiyat “Plastic Free Region” from the upcoming season by providing paper bags across Galiyat and banning all sorts of plastic bags for sustainable clean environment.

Focal person of GDA told APP that for enhancing the natural and physical environment of Galiyat, and implementation of National Clean and Green Campaign, GDA would soon start full-fledge plantation drive besides installing more than 200 new dustbins at different locations of Galiyat.

In order to maintain the natural beauty of Galiyat the Authority has served notices to high-rise buildings and billboards for violating building by-laws and Building Control Section has been directed to complete the operation against violators and encroachment.

He said GDA was outsourcing 5-rest houses in Galiyat that would generate almost Rs 7.7 million per year, adding out of the revenue 25 percent would be spent on welfare of local community by providing water filtration plants and resolving sanitation issues of local schools.

He said GDA is initiating community uplifting projects by establishing incubation center at Nathiagali for providing free training to locals and hotel associations for the provision of friendly service to tourists and generation of income to locals.

The official said that GDA was all set to initiate new schemes and development projects in Galiyat region for attraction and facilitation of tourists.

He said that this year GDA would start new projects for the betterment of service delivery, beautification of the region, and promotion of tourism.

The projects would include water supply schemes for Thandiyani, Changlagali, Ayubia, Khanspur, outsourcing of rest houses, installation of camping pods at Changlagali and Khanspur, establishment of parks at Changagali, Khairagali and Ayubia.

He said that existing cabin wheels would be auctioned and replaced by new modernize cabins at 53 points while new would also be installed at several other places.
