Flood warning for Chitral, nine other districts issued on June 30, claims PDMA

PESHAWAR – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s (KP) Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said on Sunday that Chitral and nine other districts of the province had been warned of an increased flood risk on June 30 (Thursday), in an apparent bid to shift the responsibility of deadly recent floods in the area, in which dozens died and went missing.

At least thirty people died while dozens went missing as the flood wreaked havoc in Chitral, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said on Sunday.

According to officials, most of the casualties were reported from the Arsun village where the flood water swept away a mosque and the people inside with it.

Despite the PDMA’s claims of early warnings, the provincial government and local authorities failed to take substantial measures to prevent the loss of life.
