I am a soldier of Pakistani military, Afridi admits emotional attachment with armed forces after Indian media s outlandish commentary

ISLAMABAD – Former Pakistani skipper Shahid Afridi took a bold and blunt stance on Wednesday and asserted that he was proud of his armed forces claiming that he was also a soldier of the Pakistani military.

In an interview with a private television channel, the 38-year-old cricketer expressed his views in the backdrop of Indian media’s reporting that Afridi was an agent of ISI and Pakistan’s military, asserting that had he not been a cricketer, he would have been in the Pakistan Army.

To a question about the possibility of him joining the Indian Premier League, the star performer replied in the negative.

“The day is not far when PSL will be bigger than IPL,” claimed Afridi and opined that he stood firmly with his statement against Indian brutalities in occupied Kashmir.

It is noteworthy that ‘Boom Boom’ roasted the Indian authorities on Tuesday after he decried the killings in Kashmir valley which happened over the weekend.

In his tweet, the player decried the inaction of supranational organisations keeping mum over the violence unleashed in the restive region.

Afridi’s outburst drew ire on social media with his Indian counterparts targeting him for portraying the Indian authorities in a bad light, in the backdrop of Kashmir issue.

Soon after Afridi’s tweet, Indian celebrities including Sachin Tendulkar, Gautam Gambhir, Suresh Raina and others slammed the player, however, the DG ISPR also responded and bolstered Afridi’s position.

In his series of tweets in Afridi’s favour from his personal Twitter handle, the ISPR chief also responded to an Indian article about the former cricketer being “roasted online”.

Let it be known that Indian forces unleashed a fresh assault on the Kashmiris over the weekend killing over one and a half dozen in and injuring 200 in the valley after fierce clashes between rebels and government forces.

Moreover, at least 25 civilians suffered pellet wounds, while six others were being treated for bullet injuries, according to police. Locals, however, said that the number of those hurt was much higher.

Armed police and paramilitary soldiers in riot gear fanned out across the region Monday and are patrolling streets in anticipation of anti-India protests and clashes
