Imran suspends Justice Wajih’s party membership

ISLAMABAD (Staff Report) – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan on Wednesday suspended the party membership of Justice (r) Wajih-ud-Din Ahmad for discussing PTI’s internal matters on media.

According to a statement issued by the party, Khan stated that Wajih has been damaging Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf through his baseless propaganda against senior leaders. It further added that party head on August 4 declared that no internal matter would be discussed on media.

However Justice Wajih-ud-Din once again discussed PTI’s internal matters on media ignoring the instruction upon which Imran Khan has suspended his basic membership, the statement read.

Wajih, while responding to a question during a talk show on Tuesday night, confirmed that several senior party leaders were found involved in corruption during the distribution of party tickets for general elections in 2013. He further demanded party chief to suspend these leaders in the light of party constitution.

Earlier PTI chairman Imran Khan said on Tuesday that no party leader would now discuss internal matters on media while confirming that there were some differences in party factions. “We don’t need to wash our dirty laundry in public,” he told reporters after heading a session of party executive council.

Wajih-ud-Din, who also contested presidential elections against former military ruler Pervez Musharaf in 2007, had been heading Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s election tribunal to investigate the irregularities reported during intra party elections that were conducted in 2012. Justice had recommended party chief Imran Khan to dissolve the party structure in his final report, which further ordered suspension of party membership of four leaders which included Jahangir Tareen, Pervez Khatak, Abdul Aleem Khan and Nadir Laghari.

The recommendations were partially implemented and suspension of the leaders still remains to be followed.
