Ahsan expresses uncertainty over govt completing tenure, casts doubts on Senate elections in March
ISLAMABAD - Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal on Friday expressed uncertainty regarding the timely conduct of Senate elections, adding that no one can say for certainty that the government would remain intact till March.

Referring to the ongoing political crisis in Balochistan, Iqbal said the politics of resignations and sit-ins will weaken the country and added the country is passing through circumstances which are a cause for concern.

However, the interior minister said the government is hopeful in completing its term.

Stressing the need to "realise the threats being faced by the country on the foreign front", he asked citizens to maintain peace, stability, and unity in tackling foreign threats.

"Otherwise, we will be doing a disservice to ourselves," he added.

Senate Deputy Chairman Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri shares same concerns:

Senate Deputy Chairman Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri also said Senate elections may be postponed if a political disruption happens in Balochistan following the recent instability.

He also alleged that the trio of Asif Zardari, Imran Khan, and Tahirul Qadri want to derail the incumbent government before March.

Haideri said he wasn’t aware of who was behind the sudden disruption in the political scenario of Balochistan, but clarified that the “JUI-F has nothing to do with it.”

Balochistan govt crisis deepens:

The PML-N- led government was shaken recently after the resignation of cabinet members in the Balochistan government.

Earlier today, a provincial minister and the chief minister’s adviser resigned.

A total of five PML-N members of the provincial cabinet have resigned so far, plunging the provincial government into a severe crisis.

Moreover, Chief Minister Balochistan Sanaullah Zehri faces a no-confidence motion in the provincial assembly.
