LHC bars NAB from arresting Hamza Shehbaz

LAHORE – The Lahore High Court barred the National Accountability Bureau on Saturday from arresting Pakistan Muslim league Nawaz leader Hamza Shehbaz.

The PML-N leader had moved the court for protective bail following which the anti-graft body was instructed not to detain the politician until April 8th.

Chief Justice Lahore High Court Sardar Muhammad Shamim Khan heard the petition filed by Hamza Shehbaz in his chamber and issued the directives.

Following the orders, the NAB team headed back to the bureau after hours-long efforts to detain the lawmaker. The NAB officers along with the lawmakers gathered outside the residence of Shehbaz Sharif in Model Town, however, were not able to arrest the politician.

Contingents of police, Rangers and anti-riot force surrounded 96-H Model Town, a day after its first unsuccessful raid.

A large number of PML-N workers staged a sit-in outside the residence; police and party loyalists clashed as they attempted to enter Shehbaz family residence.

Speaking to a private TV via telephone, Hamza said that the party Workers should protest peacefully.
