ISLAMABAD – In less than one month, the multiple visits of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his family members before the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) have cost the national exchequer Rs20.8 million, sources close to the development told Daily Pakistan on Thursday.
Finance Ministry record shows that nearly Rs3.8 million was spent on the deployment of 2,523 security officials from Rangers, Police, Special Branch, Intelligence Bureau, FC and Traffic during Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s visit to the Judicial Academy on June 15, 2017.
A sum of Rs10.3 million was spent on the security of Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Maryam Nawaz, Hussain Nawaz, Hassan Nawaz and Capt (r) Safdar when they appeared before the JIT to record their statements. The whole amount was paid from the national exchequer, according to the sources.
As many as 13,500 security personnel were deployed in the capital city to secure the area around the Constitutional Avenue.
On the other hand, the sources added, all government employees and federal and provincial ministers, parliamentary secretaries, reached the Academy to show support to their leaders in their personal capacity.
