KARACHI – Pakistan Army has established a free medical camp for three days at Tharparkar, says a press release of ISPR on Monday.
Army doctors and paramedics provided essential medical treatment to over 1700 patients during the medical camp. Team of doctors included physicians, ENT specialists, dental surgeons and gynecologists, it added.
At least 600 infants in Thar lost their lives during the last year—the highest figure for the past four years.
According to the provincial health secretary, 450 children had lost their lives in 2017, while 479 had passed away in 2016 and 398 in 2015.
The reasons for the deaths vary, according to the authorities: pre-term and low birth weight, birth asphyxia, pneumonia, respiratory distress syndrome, acute malnutrition with complications, and diarrhoea.
Health and nutrition experts have urged concerned functionaries of the Sindh government to devise long-term plans and policies so the fatalities of infants and expecting mothers could be avoided in the future.
