Imran Khan hints at nominating young candidate for Punjab s CMship

LAHORE – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman and the Prime Minister-in-waiting Imran Khan has expressed that this party would nominate a young candidate to fill the slot of chief minister Punjab.

Addressing the party workers in Islamabad on Wednesday, the cricketer-turned-politician said that he will put forward the name of a “corruption-free” candidate, but held back from sharing any name

“The nominee will have a clean image with not a single corruption charge against him,” Imran affirmed while seeking the support of legislators from the province.

Reiterating his earlier plans, the PM-elect remarked that the Punjab police will be depoliticised and made autonomous on the same lines as the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police.

“We also have to improve schools and hospitals in Punjab. Nation’s money should be spent on improving the lives of people,” he added.

Speaking about the General Elections 2018, Imran congratulated his party members and said it was a “tough election.”

He pointed out that the party needs to work on improving its system of allotting tickets to the hopefuls.

‘Allotting party tickets was the biggest challenge for me. The party members must work towards making the party an institution,’ said Khan who is due to take the oath of his office in the next few days.

There are numerous candidates in the run for the top slot of Punjab. Earlier, it was reported that Aleem Khan would take over the reins of the province, however, his the chances of him becoming the CM faded as soon as the National Accountability Bureau intensified investigations against him.

Another contestant in the run is Mian Aslam Iqbal, who had been a part of the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid.

More in line are Yasir Humayun from Chakwal and Sibtain Khan from Mianwali, however, Imran Khan has not shown his cards in this regard, though he has to make the crucial decision in the next few days.
