KARACHI – The case surrounding death of young businessman Mir Raza took another tuen as his grave was exhumed at Karachi’s Society Cemetery to collect fresh forensic evidence regarding his identity and the circumstances surrounding his death.
The exhumation was carried out in the presence of members of the medical board, senior police officials, family members and lawyer Jibran Nasir. A heavy police contingent was deployed at the cemetery as authorities proceeded with the forensic examination. The police surgeon, head of the Identification Project and a magistrate were also present during the procedure.
Medical board members collected various samples from the grave as part of the investigation. A DNA sample from Mir Raza’s remains will also be obtained, while the board has decided to collect DNA samples from both his father and mother for forensic comparison.
Officials said different parts of the remains would undergo detailed analysis. Medical experts on the board will independently examine the remains in an effort to uncover evidence that could help establish the circumstances and possible cause of death.
Mir Raza’s family earlier rejected medical board, and after family’s objections, the government restored the previous medical board, which has now proceeded with the exhumation and forensic examination.
DNA comparison and detailed examination of the remains are expected to provide authorities with further evidence as the investigation into Mir Raza’s death continues.
