ISLAMABAD – In another blow to former president Pervez Musharraf, a district and sessions court dismissed his plea to dismiss Abdul Rashid Ghazi’s murder case on Tuesday.
Additional Session Judge Raja Asif Mehmood issued the short order on a plea filed by Musharraf’s counsel Akhtar Shah.
Ghazi, a cleric associated with Lal Masjid Islamabad, was killed in an army operation in July 2007. The operation code-named ‘Operation Sunrise’ started after the local administration and scholars of Lal Masjid and Jamia Hafsa engaged in a confrontation with President Musharraf ordering a full-scale military operation.
Of the 164 SSG Army commandos that participated in the operation, as many as 10 were martyred and 33 were wounded, Geo News reported.
The former president is named a proclaimed offender in the case for not appearing before the court.
Earlier, last month Pervez Musharraf announced to visit Pakistan, however, he changed his plan soon. Multiple cases have been lodged against the former president, including the one regarding the killing of Pakistan Peoples Party leader Benazir Bhutto.
