PTI, PPP suspend election rallies in Peshawar after attack on ANP candidate

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) announced on Wednesday to halt its political activities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for one day to show solidarity with Awami National Party.

Following the sad demise of Awami National Party (ANP) leader Haroon Bilour and other party workers, the Central Information Secretary and Spokesman of PTI Fawad Chaudhry said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) expressed solidarity with the Bilour family and leadership of ANP.

He said that PTI was with Bilour family and ANP at this time of extreme grief, adding that PTI flags would be flown at half-mast during one day mourning.

The party even announced to postpone its rally in Peshawar scheduled for July 14 (Saturday).

Moreover, PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has announced that he is suspending his political activities for today and his Thursday jalsa in Peshawar in the wake of yesterday’s terrorist attack on an ANP’s political meeting.

A senior leader of Awami National Party (ANP) and candidate for PK-78, Haroon Bilour was among 21 people who were martyred in an explosion in Peshawar on Tuesday night.

According to police, the blast occurred during a corner meeting of Awami National Party (ANP) in the Yaka Toot area of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa capital.
