KP CM Gandapur, PTI top brass booked under terror charges for threats, assault on Islamabad cops

ISLAMABAD — More trouble for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) top leaders including Khyber Pakhtunkhuwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur as new terror-related charges were filed against Imran Khan’s party members after Islamabad rally.

Ali Amin Gandapur, and other PTI leaders are accused of holding Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) on gunpoint during the rally. As per the FIR, Shoaib Shaheen hit a constable in the ribs with the butt of a pistol. Hamid Raza and Mahmood Khan Achakzai are reported to have pushed a constable and seized his bulletproof vest.

Reports in local media said four separate terrorism cases were filed against PTI at both the CTD and Sangjani police stations. The charges include violence and threats, with allegations that former Speaker Asad Qaiser and Shahid Khattak forcibly hitting police personnel.

A case was filed under Peaceful Assembly Act 2024 at the Sangjani police station, nominating PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar, KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, former Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Khalid Khurshid, and other key figures.

Amid the violent confrontation, CM Gandapur refused to apologise for violent events. The cases include charges under the Anti-Terrorism Act (7 ATA), the Peaceful Assembly and Public Order Act 2024, and accusations of interference with government duties.

The FIR further mentioned series of confrontations between Sangjani rally organizers and Islamaabd law enforcement.

The situation escalated when the magistrate and DSP returned at 9:30 PM to request the conclusion of the rally. According to the FIR, high-profile PTI members, including Barrister Gohar, Ameer Masood, and several others, allegedly pushed, threatened, and assaulted cops.

The legal proceedings against top officials of PTI mark a significant development in ongoing political and legal conflicts surrounding the party.
